“Embajada del Arte de Ucrania” (Embassy of Art of Ukraine) is a charitable and cultural association based in Barcelona, Spain. Our main purpose is to organize different activities to promote Ukrainian culture in Catalonia and to support exiled from the war representatives of creative professions: artists, photographers, musicians, and so on.
In the emerging condition of the invasion of Ukraine in 2022, from February 24 to the end of the year, we have held more than 20 cultural events: exhibitions, film screenings, master classes with refugee artists, evenings of Ukrainian music and poetry, talks about Ukrainian cultural identity, classical concerts, cultural conferences, talks about endangered Ukrainian cultural heritage and art-talks in Barcelona and Catalonia.

Art meeting of 23 Ukrainian artists in exile at the Espronceda Art Center on the 19th of November 2022. Exploring of “Farnesina”, a media art event (video mapping) supported by the Italian government in collaboration with the Espronceda Art Center.

Big concert "Spring. Ukrainian culture through music" of European classical music and traditional Ukrainian music at the National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC), in the Oval Hall, on the 29th of October 2022. Meeting of diplomat, journalist Bohdan Nahailo with the Ukrainian diaspora "Politics and culture in the realities of Ukraine" on the 19th of October, dedicated to the opening of the exhibition "Volya".
Exhibition "Volya" of photographs by Orest (Dmytro Kozatsky) reflecting the bravery of Ukrainian defenders of the Azovstal. The exhibition was held at the Library of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia from the 18th of October till the 13th of November 2022 and was censored by UPC reaction to a media attack on social networks organized by a provocative pro-Russian activist.
Meeting of the Ukrainian diaspora with the Ukrainian writer, president of the PEN Club of Ukraine Andrey Kurkov and Nobel laureate Svetlana Alekseevich at CCCB on the 12th of October 2022 during the “Biennale of Thoughts” festival.
Creative meetings during the cycle of screenings of Ukrainian filmmaker Kira Muratova at Filmoteca de Catalunya from the 11th to the 30th of October 2022 (more than 20 screenings and two creative meetings with the husband and co-producer of Kira Georgievna, Ukrainian artist Evgeny Golubenko, who was brought from Odessa).
Participation in the Francophone Day of Associations and Companies and in the Concert of Solidarity with Ukraine at the Institut français de Barcelone on the 16th and 29th of September 2022.
A concert dedicated to the Independence Day of Ukraine in Castelldelfels on the 24th of August and participation in the concert at Plaza de Espanya, Barcelona. Luchiana Hakman – soprano, Maryna Naydon – piano, Natalia Shepelenko – leader of the choir, the choir of refugee children, Maryna Chernoshtan – soprano.
Ukrainian concert (Luchiana Hakman – soprano, Maryna Nadyon – piano) of gratitude to Barcelona and the people of Barcelona for helping Ukrainian refugees. The event took place in the Royal Artistic Circle (in the presence of the Consul General of Ecuador and the Consulate of France) on the 28th of July.
Screenings of the film “Oles Gonchar. The word as a weapon” at Boliche Cinemes on the 22th and 23rd of June 2022 and the conference with the producer of the film in person.
Collective exhibition “Art for peace” of Ukrainian sculpture, media art and photography in Poblenou, at ApocApoc space from the 27th of May 2022 to the 21st of January 2023.
Participation in the solidarity conference “Museums in danger!” at MNAC with speakers from Pompeu Fabra University on the 12th of May 2022.
Official solidarity event with Ukraine on the 9th of May – Europe Day (22 consuls of the EU countries were present, including Consul General Mr. Vorobyov invited by His Excellency Mr. Ramadour, Consul General of France) at MNAC.
Participation in the lecture of Mr. Josep Ramoneda (“La Maleta de Portbou” magazine) on the political and cultural realities of Ukraine at “La Central” bookstore on the 9th of May 2022. A conversation about war photography by Sergey Mikhalchuk and Oleksandr Ratushnyak.
Participation in the international debate “Voices for Ukraine. The museum as a refuge” at MACBA on the 27th of April 2022.
Workshops of art and creation of fairy tale on the 23rd of April 2022, San Jordi book day, at Artist illustrator, winner of an art competition in Bologna, Italy, artist in exile Polina Doroshenko with the support of artist in exile Oksana Drachkovska and artist in exile Anna Surgan.
Conducting Ukrainian music and poetry evenings and master classes with Ukrainian refugee artists at MNAC.
A series of solidarity art-dinners for Ukrainian refugees in restaurants of Barcelona with the presence and performances of Lyceum Theater artists and Ukrainian artists. 8 meals-concerts during the first months of the war.
Mini-conferences with 400 students of Catalan schools: “Personality of the Ukrainian refugee. The importance of cultural heritage” at MNAC and libraries of Catalonia.
“Vesna #stopwar” exhibition at MNAC from the 7th of April till the 11th of September 2022 (the works of Ukrainian illustrators about the war in Ukraine and videographic material from the Maria Primachenko Museum and other cultural centers affected by the war).
Participation in the charity concert in solidarity with Ukraine organized by the Societat Civil Catalana on the 16th of March 2022 at the church of the Virgen del Pilar.
